SATRĀVUT AS THE SACRED OBJECT FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE BUDDHA IMAGE OF LANNA PEOPLE

Abstract

The thesis entitled “Satrāvut as the sacred objects for the celebration of the Buddha
images of Lanna people” has the objectives which are 1. To study Satrāvut appeared in
Buddhism 2. To study Satrāvut as the sacred objects for the celebration of the Buddha images of
Lanna people and 3. To analyze Satrāvut as the sacred objects for the celebration of the Buddha
images of Lanna people.
The result of the study shows that Satrāvut is sometimes written as a Sātrāvut. refer to
the tools of persecution. destruction. and invading life. etc. It is divided into 2 types which are
Satrāvut and Dhammāvuth. Satrāvut are sword. arrow. spear. wood. and guns. etc.. in order to bring to attack. fight. execute or kill the enemy to injury or death. Even items that can be
attacked. injured or even killed are considered āvut or weapons. Dhammāvut is a weapon that is
a characteristic of Dharma. It is used for persecution to destroy various misdeeds; not for killing.
hurting. and exploit others. It is also a weapon that does not support Satrāvut. Dhammāvut
includes 1) Suthāvut. weapon is Suta. 2) Pavivekāvut. weapon is Vivek and 3) Paññāvut. weapon
is Paññā. In Buddhism Satrāvut is used in the celebration of the Lanna Buddha images. That is
used as a symbol to represent the king of Prince Siddhatha and the knowledge comparability of
weapons according to the Buddhist expression that is Intelligence is like a weapon.
