Abstract

The research of "Important pagodas in Lan Xang: Analysis from historical Buddhist art and the relation with people in basin of the Mekong River" is a qualitative research, aimed to study on historical Buddhist art important pagodas in Lan Xang, study culture The beliefs and rituals of the Mekong River communities towards the major relics in Lan Xang and analyze the value and relationship of the important pagodas in Lan Xang to the community as a symbol of the power of the people in the Mekong River.

From the study, had found important pagodas in Lan Xang such as Phrathat Phanom in Nakhon Phanom province, Phrathat Phangpuan in Nong Khai province, Phrathat Luang in Vientiane and Phrathat Srikottabong in Khammouane is a pagodas with a long history. There are legendary references to the coming of the Buddha and was repaired by the king in the Lan Xang kingdom throughout. The pagoda's architectural style is unique in architecture, which is a pagoda in Lan Xang art.

Important pagodas in Lan Xang have culture beliefs and rituals of the Mekong River community towards the pagodas. The traditional culture is similar is annual pagodas, circular around the pagodas, cloth cover pagodas, dance sacrificial offerings and vows.
