Wat Suthat’s Inscription, Buddhadhamma and Its Social Value

Abstract

The objective of this research are 1) to study history and content of Wat Suthat’s Inscription 2) to study of Buddhadhamma appearing on it and  3) to analyze it’s value influenced Thai society. 

The result of study found that many sources of first Wat Suthat's Inscription in could be more referred to Tipitaka, exegesis and others respectively. Its more sources because of content of books were same. PacceBuddhas (ปัจเจกพุทธ) exegesis was referred in second Inscription and lastly exegesis and others were referred in world landscape of inscription.

Buddhist teachings appeared in the inscriptions of the Lord Buddha and the PacceBuddha were 1) Idealism: event through many more of Lord Buddha (in the past and becoming in future) but the Buddhahood or qualification and way to fulfill the Buddha are similarity and, such as high status of family, ordain as a monk, perform meritorious acts, against evil etc. 2) Universal principles: The status of the Lord Buddha is universal, which everyone can be, if possessing sufficient qualities by performing great acts in above 3) property of Buddhahood. Contents of three inscription sectors were separated but one meaning as a whole was 'Buddhist cosmology'. This same as wall painting appeared on Wat Suthat' Uposatha hall, sculpture and architecture in shrine landscape. It's contents were similar to Buddhist world landscape books contents. First and second content were ex-Buddhas and PacceBuuddhas who were ideal persons of worlds and third content referred to three worlds; paradise, human being world and evil world.
