Development of English Phrasal Verb Learning through Cognitive Analytical Process
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to: 1 . Study the process of analytical thinking in Buddhist
wisdom and learning phrasal verbs in English. 2 . Synthesize the process of cognitive
thinking to develop learning of phrasal verbs in English. 3 . Create and test the
effectiveness of a learning development manual for phrasal verbs in English using the
process of cognitive thinking. The sample group consists of second-year English major
students at Mahachulalongkararajvidyalaya University, Chiang Mai Campus, selected by
random drawing, including 27 experimental students and 27 control students, as well
as 1 0 Thai and international professors. The research tool used is in the form of
interviewing form, testing, questionnaire and teaching manual. Basic statistics used for
data analysis include the percentage, mean score ( xˉ ), standard deviation (SD),
qualitative content analysis, and statistical tests such as Independent Samples t-test
(paired-t-test).
The results of the study found that:
1. Cognitive thinking theory is suitable for developing learning of phrasal verbs
in English as it facilitates students to practice analytical thinking, synthesis, and
connection in learning, progressing from easy to difficult tasks.
2 . Phrasal verbs in English can be learned in various forms, but the method
developed through cognitive analytical thinking involves analyzing the meaning of
particles towards the overall meaning.
3 . The effectiveness of the learning development manual for phrasal verbs in
English using cognitive thinking was significant. A statistically significant increase in the
average scores before and after the training was observed in the experimental group
(xˉ±SD; before = 16.81±4.18, after = 20.93±4.77, p < 0.001). When comparing the
average scores after training between the experimental and control groups, significant
differences were found. Both groups showed significant improvement, with statistically
significant differences between the experimental (xˉ±SD; before = 17.00±5.19, after =
20.92±5.87) and control groups (xˉ±SD; before = 26.19±7.60, after = 29.52±7.43) at p <
0.001.
