Management of Museum and Cultural Heritage of Wat Phra That Doi Saket as a Learning Site and a Site for Cultural Tourism

Abstract

The research “Management of Museum and Cultural Heritage of Wat Phra That Doi
Saket as a Learning Site and a Site for Cultural Tourism” aims to study historical, social, and 
cultural contexts of Choeng Doi community and Wat Phra That Doi Saket, including the
background of the museum in order to present the management methods for the museum and
cultural heritage of Wat Phra That Doi Saket as a learning site and a site for cultural tourism. This
research is a qualitative research. The tools used in the data collection consist of the interview,
field observation and focus group discussion. The study found that, in terms of history and
society of Ban Choeng Doi community and Wat Phra That Doi Saket, many people have settled at
the foothill of the Doi Saket area and the large market becomes the center of Doi Saket District.
Moreover, people from various ethnic groups are parts of Doi Saket community. Wat Phra That
Doi Saket folk museum contains valuable history and cultural heritage so it can be a learning site
and cultural tourism attraction. The operation of the museum has problems about displaying the
artifacts and the management of the museum. The method of management for the museum and
cultural heritage of Wat Phra That Doi Saket consist of two parts of management model. The first
part is museum display management, the exhibition should be improved in order to achieve as a
learning site and a site for cultural tourism with concepts of knowledge management, exhibition
design, and cultural heritage management. The second part is the pattern of management for the
museum. The locals in the community should be able to participate as the committee of the
museum with concepts of community participation and cultural tourism management.
