The Development of English Speaking Ability Using Communicative Language Teaching of Undergraduate Students at Kalasin University

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) study students’ English speaking 
ability using communicative language teaching and 2) develop students’ English 
speaking ability using communicative language teaching for GE 10003 English 3 of the 
political science second-year students with bachelor's degrees in the Faculty of Arts 
before and after the intervention. The sample consisted of 30 second year students 
of political science at Kalasin University, 10003 English 3 in the first semester of the 
academic year 2022. They were selected by cluster random sampling. The design of 
this research was a one group pretest-posttest design. The research instruments 
included lesson plans and an English speaking ability test. The experiment in 6 
weeks, 3 hours a week, or 18 hours for all. The mean, standard deviation, percentage 
and t-test for (dependent samples) were employed to analyze the data. The results 
revealed the following: 1) English speaking ability using communicative language 
teaching for GE 10003 English 3 of the political science second-year students with 
bachelor's degrees after the experiment was 42.46 and 84.95 respectively posttest 
score higher than pretest score at .05 level of significantly statistics. 2) The 
satisfaction of the students with teaching English speaking ability using 
communicative language after the experiment was higher at a statistically significant 
level of .05.
