A Study of Consciousness in Dhammasangani According to the Principles of Paramatthadhamma

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to study of consciousness in Dhammasangani text (2) to study of consciousness in Atthasalini Atthakathā (3) to analyze a consciousness in Dhammasangani along the principles Paramatthadhamma. This study is a documentary research. The Result of research is found as following

This mind is Knowles as a consciousness or thought, a state of consciousness. It's immateriality science. This mind is the flickering, fickle mind, Difficult to guard, difficult to control as an arrow. By the nature of consciousness, it's faring afar, solitary, incorporeal, lying in the body. This consciousness is nature of fineness. This mind make fine of our-self and the other thing. By name this mind it's 'Citta, Mano, Manus, Hadaya, Pandara, Manayatana, Manindriya, Vinnana, Vinnanakhandha and Manovinnanadhatu', However but that the 'Citta, Mano, Vinnana' etc. An essence of consciousness means to 'know' but by rebirth along in worlds 'skillful, unskillful and the indeterminate'.

The consciousness in the principles of Paramatthadhamma, it presents four points. There are consciousness of the sense-sphere, Form-sphere consciousness, Formless-sphere resultant consciousness and Supermundane consciousness. In these four consciousness, presents the mind as the follows: (1) twelve immoral consciousness (2) eighteen rootless consciousness (3) four twenty Sense-Sphere beautiful consciousness (4) fifteen form-sphere consciousness (5) twelve Formless-sphere resultant consciousness (6) eight or twenty Supermundane consciousness. The total there are eighty-nine or one hundred twenty-one along profitable states, unprofitable states, resultant and functional consciousness.
