Chulakathin : The way of Buddhism, Cotton and Life

Abstract

This academic article aims to analyze the value of the Chulakathin Ceremony.
This is the Buddhist documents and scriptures study. The study found that Kathin is
sacrifices that the Lord Buddha has authorized by Himself. It is important because it is
a ritual that is determined by time, person, and material. It is a Buddhist tradition that
has been passed down from the Buddha's time to the present. As for Chulakathin, it is
classified as a type of Kathin that has a special feature from general Kathin, which is
the weaving of Kathina cloth, which must be completed in one day and popularly
offered on the last day of the Kathin Festival. Therefore, it is believed that those who
inherited Chulakathin will receive more merits than usual. The Chulakathin ceremony
has value both in terms of extending the way of life to be closer to Buddhism. This is
to preserve folk wisdom from being lost and cause learning in society In essence. It
creates unity and is the practice of many Dhamma such as almsgiving, patience, etc.
However, since the Kathina ceremony is an activity that requires a large budget and
requires skilled weavers, causing this tradition to begin to disappear from Thai society.
