ANALYSIS OF KNOWLEDGE AND PROMOTION OF THE NORTHERN THAI SIP-SONG PENG FESTIVAL FOLLOWING THE SAPAOKUM BOAT IN CHIANG RAI.

Abstract

The article has objectives to 1) promote the participation process of in
the 12th month(full moon/lunar) Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the
Sapaokham(golden boat), 2) create the knowledge to promote the 12th month(full
moon/lunar) Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham(golden boat) in
Chiang Rai and 3) to pass on the knowledge of the 12th month(full moon/lunar) Peng
Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham(golden boat) to temples, houses,
schools and communities in Chiang Rai Province. This is the qualitative research and
data was collected through the tools called document and interviewing. The
research result found that:

1) The promote of the participation process of in the 12th month(full
moon/lunar) Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham(golden boat) was
found in Thoeng district, there was the participation among temples, houses, schools,
communities, governmental sectors, local organizations, Lanna sage and private
sectors to promote and preserve the tradition to sustain.

2) Creation of the knowledge to promote the 12th month(full
moon/lunar) Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham(golden boat) in
Chiang Rai was done in books and textbooks to collect information about the 12th

month Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham boat to be passed on to
the youth. And

3) the passing on the knowledge of the 12th month(full moon/lunar)
Peng Nua tradition and the giving of the Sapaokham(golden boat) to temples, houses,
schools and communities in Chiang Rai Province was found that the knowledge was
transferred by disseminating from books, textbooks, and organizing seminars,
discussions, lectures, as well as reaching to temples, houses, schools, communities,
and government officials together to conserve and inherit by organizing merit-making
activities every year.
