(Teaching social studies to develop values of Thai people 4.0)

Abstract

With the government's policy vision on economic development requiring to develop the country to 4.0 era, this article aimed to present the body of knowledge about teaching social studies to develop the values of Thai people to be in accordance with the development of society in the coming era. Teaching social studies refers to teaching the relationship between human and the environment and between human and the society. There are two main goals, namely academic aspect and youth development aspect. There are five steps: 1. Studying the curriculum documents, 2. Planning, 3. Organizing learning activities, 4. Using media and materials, 5. Measuring and evaluating, respectively. The values of Thai society mean the concept, ideology, beliefs, and needs of the people in society, which is accepted to be good, and valuable and they should be applied as a guideline for action and a framework of living for the benefits of one's self and public. It is at the discretion of most human societies. It is a heritage of Thais and the basis of tradition and culture. There are five basic values of Thai society that should be cultivated, namely 1.Self-dependent, and being diligent, 2. Saving, 3. Discipline and respect for the law, 4. Following the virtue and religious morals, and 5. Loving the country, religion, and the King. There are six ways to develop good values for learners: 1. Teaching by mutual responsibility, 2. Brainstorming, 3. Teaching by practice, 4. Teaching by simulation scenarios, 5. Teaching by demonstration, and 6. Project teaching.
