Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to learn the teaching on the Three Characteristics Which are impermanence to people who become old-aged in order to understand The Dharma principal : the truth of life both abstractedly and materially. Everything falls Under the Rule of the three Characteristics instability, suffering and selflessness. The elderlies are in the last state of life cycle, starting and selflessness. The elderlies are in the age of life cycle, starting from the age of 60 years up. They are changing physically, mentally and socially, They need care and respect from their society and offsprings. Advantanges of the teaching on the Three Characteristics are that people will not be preoccupied, or intoxicated and that they will not be careless in life. The reasons that people do not clearly understand the Three Characteristics are that they are ignorant and there is something concealing the Three Characteristics completely. Hence, they cannot figure out the Lord Buddha's teaching on the Three Characteristics which are comprised of 3 things : growth conceals instability, movement conceals suffering and self-importance conceals selflessness. They are stiked to the Five Elements namely form, sensation, perception, predisposition and consciousness. Only after a person has observed insight development, will he/she derives wisdom which enables them to see the truth of the Three Characteristics. And that will lead them to freedom (Vimutti), purity(sudhi), wisdom (bhaya), growth (santi) and nirvana (nippan) which are the highest goal of Buddhism. This is the important reason why the Lord Buddha called the teaching on the Three Characteristics "bhahulanusanee" which means the teaching most frequently taught by the Lord Buddha.
