DEVELOPMENT OF WELFARE ON A BUDDHIST BASIS FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN CHIANG RAI PROVINCE

Abstract

The article has objectives to 1) study the Buddhist welfare provision for the
elderly in Chiang Rai Province, 2) study the of the participation process in Buddhist welfare
development of the elderly in Chiang Rai Province, and 3) to analyze the model of
Buddhist welfare development of the elderly in Chiang Rai Province. This is the qualitative
research and data was collected through the tools called document and interviewing. The
research result was found that;

1) the Buddhist welfare provision for the elderly in Chiang Rai Province was as
follows: social welfare activities like Buddhist tourism and establishment of the center for
quality of life improvement, the activities of cultural welfare like meeting on Buddha’s day,
paying homage at nine temples and the activities according to community tradition like
making sandalwood flowers, occupational promotion and culture.
2) The participation process in Buddhist welfare development of the elderly in
Chiang Rai Province was in the participatory process of network partners, temples, houses,
schools, communities, government sectors, agencies that supported in the welfare of the
elderly.
3) Analyzing of the model of Buddhist welfare development of the elderly in
Chiang Rai Province was found in the forms of arrangement as follows: health welfare
arrangement, welfare on education, occupational welfare and housing(sheltering).
