The Archaeological Map of Dvaravati Civilization in Suphanburi Province

Abstract

The research article titled “The Archaeological Map of Dvaravati 
Civilization in Suphanburi Province” is a qualitative research study in 
conjunction with action research with the objectives of 1) To study the 
archaeological map of Dvaravati civilization in Suphanburi Province. This 
research using main information from books. textbooks. academic 
documents including sources from Suphanburi National Museum and U
Thong National Museum. This research using information of empirical 
archaeological evidence from the survey that remain in 4 research areas in 
Suphanburi Province. including U-Thong ancient city. Ban Khu Mueang 
Ancient city. Nong Rachawat ancient city. and the area of the ancient city of 
Ban Nong Chaeng. There is also a seminar area that provides research 
information and experts as well. 
This research found that from the study of historical documents and 
field studies in the 4 ancient cities in Suphanburi province. Only the area in 
the ancient city of U-Thong appeared in the Dvaravati civilization. Therefore. 
the study of the area was studied based on archaeological evidence. such 
as the ancient city plan in the shape of an ellipse or oval. digging a moat 
and building an embankment around cities. etc. In addition. various 
artefacts were also found. such as Phra Naga Prok. Thammachak. multi
colored glass beads. etc.. and ancient sites such as Chedi No. 1. Chedi No. 2. Archaeological Site No. 2. and Archaeological Site No. 10. etc. 
Archaeological evidence mentioned above are all confirmations of Dvaravati 
civilization at U-Thong Ancient City in Suphanburi Province.
