The application of Buddhist Principles in Horoscopes With Lanna-Style Astrology Cards

Abstract

The research study the application of Buddhist principles in horoscopes with 
Lanna-Style astrology cards is qualitative research. The researcher uses a document 
analysis study method and related research along with the use of in-depth interviews 
with key informants. Data collection was conducted using in-depth interviews and 
analyzed the content based on the key points of the research objectives. 
It is found that horoscopes with Lanna-Style astrology cards has evolved from 
Lanna traditional fortune-telling that uses the method of counting flower cones, then 
apply to the horoscope in the form of cards which uses 56 cards to predict. There 
are 36-baht paid to fortune teller as teacher's money. There are 3 characteristics: 1) 
viewing a general story: use 6-cards to predict. 2) The 10-card horoscope is the main 
horoscope and 3) Long-term horoscope method. This method is used for fortune 
telling in each month about what will happen to your life in the next 12 months, 
using 12 cards.   
The application of Buddhist principles in horoscopes with Lanna-Style 
astrology cards are: 
1) The application of the Four Brahma Viharn Principles, fortune-telling must 
be performed with kindness without discriminating against people. Karuna has a true 
determination to solve suffering or problems. Mudita is happy when the fortune is 
good, and Upekkha is indifferent to bad luck. 
2) The 5 precepts must give good advice. There are ways to give advice on 
how to live according to the five precepts with carelessness. 

3) The Kalamasutta the fortune-teller must also inform the clients that one 
hastily believes in the predictions. Do not be quick to believe any predictions without 
having the wisdom to consider. 
4) The Four Noble Truths by understanding the problem, determine the root 
cause of the problem, tell about the results of predictions and suggest the most 
appropriate approach or solution to the problem.
