The Analysis of Translation in The Last Samurai Movie (2003)

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze translation principles used in The Last Samurai
(2003) from English to Thai subtitles. This is a qualitative study with descriptive analysis. The
researcher chose the following principles as the framework to analyze the data: 1) Lexical
translation 2) Idiomatic translation 3) Slang translation 4) Figurative languages translation
According to the analysis, it was found that there had been several translation principles used in
the subtitle’s translation. They are lexical translation, idiomatic translation, and slang translation
respectively.
