Analysis of Translation Principles from English to Thai in "The Little Prince"

Abstract

This article aims to analyze translation principles of The Little Prince from English to Thai.
It is a qualitative study with descriptive analysis. According to the analysis, it was found that there
were 6 translation principles; 1) literal translation, 2) literal translation without addition of Thai
words, 3) literal translation with addition of Thai words 4) partial translation without addition of
Thai words, 5) free translation, 6) transcription or transliteration, and 7) transcription or
transliteration without addition of Thai words. The most commonly used principle is literal
translation. Finally, the researcher also presents the summary of the analysis and suggestions for
future research.
