FIVE PRECEPT PRACTICES GUIDELINES OF STUDENT BANHUAITOM SCHOOL CHAIYAWONGSAUPATHAM NASAI, LI DISTRICT IN LAMPHUN PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of the research were 1) to study knowledge and understanding on implementing the 5 precepts preservation village project to be guideline to be practiced by students at Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School, Nasai Sub-district, Li District, Lamphun Province, 2) to study the behavior of implementing the 5 precepts of the students at Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School, Nasai Sub-district, Li District, Lamphun Province, 3) to study the approach for implementing the 5 precepts for the development of behaviors of students at Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School, Nasai Sub-district, Li District, Lamphun Province. This study was a qualitative research conducted from in-depth interview from 15 key informants and from the Focus Group Discussions with 10 students.


From the research results, it was found that:




  1. Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School students had natural knowledge and understandings that is precept refers to normal because people normally love their life and appreciating other people's lives. When this is felt they were glad to practice precepts because they didn’t want to annoy each other. Practicing precepts thus led to being a normal person, generous to one another, knowing how to share, living righteously. They genuinely understand how to live simple life, not annoy others, and restraint themselves to not behave in a bad way. The Ban Phrabathuaitom community and families with modesty, which is a mental symptom on doing evil because of fear of the consequent and the thought of the penalty or the suffering that will arise from doing evil such as suffering and damage to selves and family, property, being socially criticized by others.




  2. Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School students 5 precepts implementation behaviors result from the community context and the family long time practice so that the behavior is expressed in correct action, speech and thoughts appropriate for their ages. The result is a factor leading to being a good citizen, which led to peaceful union of the community and the society and the nation under the three principles of precepts, meditation, and wisdoms.




  3. Guidelines for the application of the 5 precepts to improve Banhuaytomchaiyawongsaupptham School student behavior. By the application of the 5 precepts to develop such behavior is to practice the 5 precepts through the participatory process, namely the temple, the school, and the good example of the way of life from childhood. This included activities with family, friends, and teachers. This is to have correct actions, speeches, and thoughts. Therefore, the five precepts must be composed of mindfulness, modesty, peaceful coexistence, correct living based on Buddhism, and good manners, having moral to develop the community and country.
