Guidelines of Cultural Tourism Management of Bagan, Myanmar

Abstract

The purposes of this qualitative research were 1. to study the cultural identity of cultural tourism of Bagan Ancient Town of Myanmar; and 2. to study the guidelines of cultural tourism management of this ancient town. The data was collected by documentary research, participant observation, and in-depth interviews with 19 key informants. The results showed that: 1) the unique cultural identity of Bagan Ancient Town was used in cultural tourism in 4 aspects, i.e., firstly, the scene of Bagan site such as sunrise and sunset, secondly, the Buddhist architecture such as Zedi and Gu Hpaya, thirdly, art such as sand painting and lacquer were, and fourthly, ways of life such as respect to Buddhist and former lifestyle, 2) Guidelines of cultural tourism management of this town were: services for tourists by the government, entrance tickets in Bagan Ancient Town and the management from selling tickets, public relation and check point tickets in order to preserve to this ancient town, budget for preserving the town, and zoning management for cultural tourism.
