AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF VALUE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF UBOSATHA IN BUDDHISM

Abstract

This thesis entitled "An Analytical Study of Value and Significance of Ubosatha in Buddhism". The objectives of this research as follows: 1) to study the Ubosatha in Budhism, 2) to study the value and significance of Ubosatha in Buddhism, and 3) to analyze the value and significance of Ubasatha in Buddhism. This research is qualitative research based one the documentary research method. The researcher collected data and this research is descriptive analysis. The result of the research are as follows: The result of the study found that the Ubosatha was originated since the Buddha Era in order to be the place for a religious rite and there are boundary markers of a temple. Phra Ubosatha is a place for Buddhist monks conference that is to do a religious rite together such as Phra Ubasathakamma that is Phra Pätimõka (chant the fundamental precepts) or the ordination ceremony. Phra Ubasatha of Buddhism have two kinds, including Baddhasïmä means consecrated precinct of a temple and Abaddhasima means the immaterial. Ubasatha has the value and significance to make Buddhist faith that leads to the succession of Buddhism. The value of Ubosatha reflects the architectural work which is magnificent and the wall of Ubosatha still has paintings related to Buddha's biography that is hidden by the various ethics to spectators and take place the faithfulness to the Buddha. Ubosatha has the value and significance in five aspects, including 1) Buddhism 2) Belief 3) Work of art 4) Architecture 5) Sculpture.
