SUFFICIENCY ECONOMY: THE PRINCIPLE FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

"Sufficiency Economy" is widely accepted that its principles, which consist of five components: moderation, reasonableness, self-immunity, knowledge and morality support sustainable development. In the present, there is increased encouragement to promote and join forces for implementation under the sufficiency economy principle all sectors of Thai society, including the tourism sector. With these principles, sufficiency economy could be applied to enhance the potentiality in tourism development for sustainability. So, this academic article's purpose is to describe the association between the principles of sufficiency economy and sustainable tourism concepts in term of theory and to identify the sample of applying sufficiency economy principles and practicing follow its approach in tourism development. Especially, in the community level, communities can manage local resources and develop community enterprises or their tourism business under the sufficiency economy principle for sustainable tourism development.
