A STUDY OF BELIEFS AND ITS INFLUENCES TOWARDS FOUR BUDDHAPATAS OF LANNA

Abstract

The thesis on the study of beliefs and the influence of beliefs of the 4 holy footprints on 
the Lanna people is a qualitative research. The objectives of the study are 1) to study the 
concept of the holy footprint. 2) to study the history of the 4 holy footprints at Phra Phutthabat 
Si Roy temple. Mae Rim district. Chiang Mai province. and 3) to analyze the beliefs and its 
influence towards 4 holy footprints on the Lanna community.  
This research is a qualitative research. By studying documentary data and in-depth 
interviews the main informants were 20 persons for to know the history of the Buddha's footprint. 
and the influence of beliefs on the 4 footprints of the Lanna people. The research instruments 
were interview forms from academic documents. Research related to Buddha's footprint Then 
study the document Related textbooks and research. including the study of information from the 
Tripitaka. commentary on the petitions. petitions. documents. related research results In-depth 
interview information Then collecting. analyzing the data and presenting in a descriptive format 
The footprint at Phra Phutthabat Si Roy temple. Mae Rim District. Chiang Mai Province is 
believed to be one of the five of authentic Buddha's footprint by the Lord Buddha himself. The 
characteristics of the Buddha's footprints are overlapping by 4 marks. The sizes vary from large to 
small. There are the footprint of the 4 Buddhas. namely Kakusandha. Konagomna Kassapa and 
Gautma. At present. there are four footprints bathing rituals on the full moon day of the 6th 
month of the north calendar. The four holy footprints Influence on the fine arts such as the 
viharn covering the Buddha's footprints. the ubosoth. the chedi etc. There is also an influence on 
the community economy. It generates income for the people in the area and creates prosperity 
for the province as an important tourist attraction of the province and considered a Buddhist 
temple that is popular at the national level.
