ESTABLISHING A LOCAL NETWORK FOR OBSERVING THE 5 PRECEPTS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE PEOPLE OF CHIANG RAI PROVINCE

Abstract

This material has objectives to 1) study problems and obstacles in smoking
cessation among monks who smoke in Chiang Rai Province, 2) analyze the Buddhist
psychology principle in therapeutic and treatment of smoking monks in Chiang Rai
and 3) to create model to motivate and cure smoking monks in Chiang Rai province.
This is the qualitative research with data collecting tools were document and
interviewing. The research result found that:
1) Problems and obstacles in smoking cessation among monks who smoke in
Chiang Rai Province found that monks had strong determination to quit smoking, but
was quite difficult to do so. It needed time and both ways of treatments like herbs
therapy and hospital visits.
2) Analyzing the Buddhist psychology principle in therapeutic and
treatment of smoking monks in Chiang Rai as follows; 1. create treatment motivation
for smoking monks, 2. invent pattern and treatment process and 3. apply Buddhist
Psychology to motivate and treat smoking monks. And
3) Model creation to motivate and cure smoking monks in Chiang Rai
province by using the following models; 1. monks who used to smoke and
permanently quit, 2. smoking quitted Upasaka – Upasika and 3. using the Buddhist
psychology to build mental strength of smoking monks.
