A WAY TO WISDOM DEVELOPMENT AS APPEARING IN MAHAJANAKA LITERATURE

Abstract

There are 3 objectives of this essay are; 1) to study the ways of developing the wisdom 
according to the principles of Buddhism. 2) to study the pattern of the wisdom development in 
His Majesty King’s royal literary work The Story of Mahajanaka. 3) to analyze the relationship of 
the ways to develop the wisdom according to Buddhist principles and His Majesty King’s royal 
literary work The Story of Mahajanaka. 
From the study. it is found that the development of wisdom in Buddhism has two ways: 
1) The development of wisdom according to Paññāvudhidham principle and 2) The 
development of wisdom according to the threefold principles or Tri sikkhā. The obstacles in the 
development of intelligence which practitioners should avoid since they will be a barrier to 
wisdom. including craving. lust of power. misbelief. hindrance. and improper consideration. In His 
Majesty the King's royal literary work. there is a guideline for wisdom development. based on 9 
evidence of mango regeneration. namely 1) cultivating the seeds 2) nursing the roots so they grow again 3) cultivating the branches 4) grafting on the other tree 5) bud grafting on the other 
tree 6) approach grafting the branches 7) layering the branches 8) Smoking the fruitless tree so 
that it bears fruit 9) culturing the cells in a container. The relationship of the ways of developing 
wisdom in accordance with the Buddhist principles and His Majesty King’s royal literary work 
found that there is the correlation with the way of developing wisdom according to Buddhism 
which covers Sĩla. Samādhi. Paññā and Paññāvudhidham principle.
