AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE PROJECT OF THE FIVE PRECEPTS OBSERVING VILLAGES, BAN LAO SUB-DISTRICT, MAECHAI DISTRICT, PHAYAO PROVINCE

Abstract

An Analytical Study of the Five Precepts Observing Village Project, Banlao Sub-District, Maechai District, Phayaoaimed to(1) study the five precepts observation projectto (2) explore guidelines to promote the project of five precepts observation, and to (3) analyze the way in promoting the project on which qualitative research was based for data collection through Semi-structured or guided interviews and Focus group discussion. Data analysis was carried out via contentanalysis with verification by data triangulation. Important informants (interview) village headman and 10 informants who involved in the fieldwork with purposive sampling, and 12 in-depth informants for afocus group.Findings showed that community in the past had kinship relationship along with culture and tradition promoting love and unity in ahelpful way, following the Buddha's teaching, preserving tradition as a social capital. Five precepts observation is the way to instruct people to do good deeds, to refrain from evils, to guard body, speech, and mind, and to manage in order to protect life together for creating happiness to people and society.
