Needs and Readiness for Online Instructional Management in English Courses for Graduate Students of Language Institute, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the needs and readiness involved in

the implementation of online education within graduate-level English courses at

Language Institutes, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The study employed

a quantitative research methodology. The sample consisted of 250 Master and

Doctoral students who registered for MCU 003 and MCU 005 English courses during

the 2023 academic year. The research included an online questionnaire as the

primary instrument. The examination of the data involved the determination of

percentages, means, frequencies, standard deviations, and content analysis. The

research findings indicated that (1) students’ satisfaction with online teaching and

learning: there was the highest level of satisfaction among students with online

teaching and learning and the instructors exhibited the highest level of satisfaction

which means the instructors indicate their proficiency in imparting knowledge through

online instruction, (2) the needs of students and instructors: the average degree of

the student's needs and the instructors exhibit showed the highest level of needs

which means the instructors focused assistance and facilitation of online education

for students, (3) readiness of students, and system and support features: the

readiness of students showed at the highest level and the online teaching

arrangement that provides clear explanations of learning methods, goals, and learning

expectations is considered to be the most prepared in terms of system and support

features.
