A STUDY OF WELLBEING PROMOTION FROM FOR THE ELDERLY ACCORDING TO BUDDHISM: A CASE OF WAT HUA FAI, SANKLANG SUB-DISTRICT, PHAN DISTRICT, CHIANG RAI

Abstract

The study aimed to study the concept on the model of promoting the health of the elderly people according to Buddhism of Wat Huafai, Pan District, Chiangrai, to explore model and obstacles in seniors' health promotion, and guidelines to promote the health of the seniors according to Buddhism. This is a documentary and qualitative research. Structured In-depth Interview was conducted to gather data from main participants numbering 13 consisting of Buddhist monks, community leaders, community health volunteer, and senior students with purposive sampling by Inclusion criteria.

Findings were summarized as follows:

1) The concept of senior's health promotion is the promotion on complete physical, social, emotional and intellectual wellbeing. Physical health is also a physical development and the development of the body to contact with the physical environment in a way to live with others, reducing factors leading to tension with right understanding of the world to live happily. 2) For model and obstacles in seniors' health promotion based on Buddhism, elders are guided to develop themselves to be modern and updated men to the changing world, respectful, competent to help society with regular exercises along with spending time for life usefully and meaningfully without negligence. (3) The guidelines for elders' health promotion directly involves with Buddhist activity management as participants' refuge according to Buddhist beliefs and faith.
